Warrior Tanking Builds Patch
Warriors will spend most of their talent points in the Protection tree. There are a few options we can choose and a lot of ways to tweak the build depending if you are going to be doing AoE Tanking or Single Target tanking. Inside each of those options you can also choose things for Raid Boss tanking or Raid AoE tanking. The Warrior has a variety of talents and skills for a bunch of different scenarios.
Warrior AoE Tanking
This build comes with all of the AoE essentials. Improved Thunderclap, Shockwave, Damage Shield, Incite, and Improved Cleave. The focus here is to pull a group of enemies, Shockwave if it's up, spam Thunderclap, and crank on cleave. Use Devastate and Shield Slam if you need the threat to keep a target on you in case someone is not doing AoE Damage in your group.
Glyph of Cleaving and Thunderclap will help you hit more targets, the improved cleave damage is a must or you will see yourself losing threat rather fast. Damage shield is a passive threat ability. That's pretty much the jest of it.
The abilities you can take points out of to move somewhere else if you please are Improved Revenge and Shield Slam as these are primarily single target threat generating attacks.
The Glyphs you'll be using are Cleaving, Blocking, Vigiliance (need the threat off the top AoE'er) and Thunderclap as a minor. The alternatives are: Shockwave.
Warrior Single Target/Raid TankingThis is an intensive single target threat generating build. The key focus here is to use Devastate, Shield Slam, and then Heroic Strike when you have extra rage. We have heavily augmented Heroic Strike to cost minimal rage, to crit 15% more, and with the glyph to grant 10 rage when it does indeed crit. You should be able to always have Heroic Strike pressed nonstop once you begin tanking. The options to this build are many. Some people prefer to have rend up on the target for active dot threat, this can be accomplished in addition to Heroic Strike or without, something you will be able to drop is Improved Heroic Strike if you find yourself having a rage surplus or Improved Disciplines will get you the two points to do that. You can also take those points and put them into the Fury tree into Armored to the Teeth and Booming Voice for some threat / shout enhancement. The options are yours.
The rotation then is Shield Slam, Devastate, Revenge when it's up, and Heroic Strike Spam. You can keep Rend if that's your preference. Don't forget your tanking cooldowns that are great to use.
The glyph selection is Heroic Strike, Blocking, Vigilance, and Thunder Clap. The alternatives are: Barbaric Insults, Devastate, Last Stand, Revenge, Shield Wall, Spell Reflection, and Taunt. Depends really on what you're doing and what you need. You can use dual spec to make multiple tanking specs if you're serious about being a tank.
